1. About The Organization:
White Ribbon Alliance is a global safe motherhood movement working to improve the lives and mothers and newborns. Its Pakistan chapter known as White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan (WRA-P); founded through , is a non-profit locally registered entity that has been active since 2008 and been part of several important developments on the policy landscape in Pakistan. Formation of National MNCH Program, Endorsement of Best Practices through Karachi Declaration, Scaling Up of Use of Magnesium Sulphate are some of the key policy achievements to its credit among others. Its members include prominent activists, researchers, academicians and professionals from the field.
Pakistan depicts unsatisfactory statistics on maternal malnutrition in the region; around 50% of mothers and children are anemic. Meanwhile, Under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2.2, Pakistan is committed to bring down maternal anemia to 50% by 2025 (WHO Global Nutrition Targets).
2. Background:
White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan (WRAP) is running a two-year campaign on Maternal Anemia in Sindh Province (Concept note attached). The campaign has been designed in consultation with the relevant government and development stakeholders. The campaign has been named as “Maternal Anemia Signified in Sindh” (MASS).
The prevalence of maternal anemia has been doubled in the last decade, the government and partners have to put in extra efforts to reach the targets envisaged in National Health Vision and Sustainable Development Goals as under SDG2.2 it says. “Reduce Maternal Anemia by 50% by year2025. Moreover, the community participation is vital to success of these public health interventions.
One of the major objectives of this campaign is to engage and educate the adolescent girls and boys about preventive and curative aspects of anemia
3. Purpose:
The main objective of this assignment is to develop a Training Manual to improve counseling skills of Community Mid Wives (CMWs) regarding Maternal Nutrition (especially uptake of Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation)
4. Introduction:
White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan (WRAP) is currently is implementing a two year (2016-18) advocacy campaign named “Maternal Anemia Signified in Sindh (MASS)” on reducing maternal anemia in the province of Sindh in collaboration with government, development partners and communities.
One of the core objectives of the campaign is to develop the counseling skills of healthcare providers (CMWs) regarding Maternal Nutrition (Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation). For the said purpose WRAP and MNCH Programme Sindh will work in collaboration to improve the counseling skills of CMW on Maternal Nutrition (Iron and Folic Acid supplementation). These skills will enhance the CMWs knowledge regarding maternal anemia, causes and hazards of anemia, how it effect mortality, vicious cycle of anemia, why it is important to address in adolescent girls, micronutrient deficiencies, importance, use, myths, barriers to the use of Iron and Folic Acid.
5. Target Beneficiaries:
Direct Target Beneficiaries (75 CMWs in 6 Districts, 10 Master Trainers of MNCH Programme)
In-direct Beneficiaries (target population (Pregnant and Lactating women, adolescent girls& Married women) of 100 CMWs)
6. Product/Deliverables/Responsibilities
The Consultant would be responsible to ensure the following tasks.
The Consultant will develop the counseling manual for CMWs in close coordination with MNCH staff. WRAP will provide technical assistance in its development.
He /she will be responsible to conduct Two-days training in Karachi, in which 10 Master trainers will be trained to carry out the training activities in districts. The training will focus on the training methodology, reporting mechanism, retention of the knowledge, pre and post of the training.
He /she will be responsible to hold meetings with MNCH staff and other Health experts to get the feedback and suggestions during the development of manual
He /she will be responsible to give the way forward / action plan to all 10 master trainers to replicate the same training in the relevant districts
He /she will be responsible the for the pre and post assessment formats for the ToTs
Sharing finalized document of counseling manual after incorporating the suggestions of different stakeholders.
Take Health Department and MNCH Sindh on board about the CMW Counseling Manual
7. Required Expertise
University degree in relevant field with at least 5 years of experience in curriculum development
Demonstrable expertise on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health & Nutrition
Highly developed analytical experience and skills in conducting analytical and qualitative analysis and coherent presentation to non-statistical audiences
Understanding of the Health System and policy landscape in Pakistan of Pakistan (Policies, Issues, Gaps) in particular Nutrition and particularly in Sindh District
Demonstrably strong verbal and written communication, presentation and persuasion skills.
Ability to plan work and meet deadlines when working under pressure on a number of projects.
Show willingness on commitment of WRAP’s goals, mission, values and approach including the ability to lead on safeguarding matters were necessary.
8. Logistics
All of the logistics arrangement related to assignment will be the responsibility of the WRAP. While the consultant will arrange his/her own travel and accommodation during assignment,

11. Budget
The total amount will be released in 3 segments of payment,
I. 20% advance,
II. 50% on development, approval and implementation of the counseling module for CMWs
III. 30% completion of work as per agreed TOR and timeline specified in the contract.
Note: The tax will be deducted from the total amount as per government rule.
12. Reporting
The consultant will report to Dr. Asma BadarMr. Aftab Hamid and will work in close consultation with Mr. Akbar Ali Dars
13. Confidentiality
The consultant shall adhere to the principle of confidentiality during and after the conduct of the consultancy.
14. Procurement of Equipment and Materials
Materials and equipment need to be provided by the consultant, except material for the workshop.
